We now live in a time when school shootings happen so often that we don’t wonder if there will be another one; we only wonder if there will be another one today.
Anyone who believes women have attained equality should be aware that this sort of thing happens all the time in less dramatic ways in offices across America and throughout the world. Women do the work, but rarely get the credit. Every woman I know can cite at least a dozen times when one of her ideas was co-opted by some man. This is not a dig at men, in particular, but at the way we assume that any big accomplishment ought to be attributed to the nearest white male.
Joe Biden is like that old boyfriend who keeps wanting to give your relationship one more chance. You like him. You have some good memories of your time together. But you no longer feel any passion for him. He’s a particular guy from a particular time in your life. He represents the past, not the future.
His entire agenda is to peddle aggressive lies and paranoia to the most gullible people in society and then, when those people are hooked on his nonsense, to sell them overpriced and useless nutritional supplements, doomsday prepper plans, and other nonsense. That some people swallow what he sells does not excuse his actions. It merely shows us that many people are easily duped. That’s not news.
Charles Kushner does not need editorial space in the Washington Post to make his voice heard. He is plenty wealthy and connected enough to speak out on his own. But it’s because he has such wealth and connections that he gets the privilege of writing for a major national newspaper. A person born and raised with lesser means would never get the same opportunity.
The drive to get your kids into competitive colleges is usually not about what they’ll learn, but about who they’ll meet. It’s about connections, not education.
I don’t know how we ever came to the conclusion that women are more emotional than men. I suspect it was a convenient way for men to keep women out of the halls and boardrooms of leadership. Or maybe men didn’t have much reason to cry when they were able to rape and assault and lie with impunity.
A better question is why Trump would employ someone with such terrible scruples for such a long time. Why would he want a man of bad character handling his business?
It is no small thing for a son or daughter to speak out against a parent. It is harder still, I imagine, to do so under the glare of court and camera. But it was the right thing to do.
The truth is, churches are not a safe place for children. I’m not saying children shouldn’t go to church with their parents, but I am saying that no child should ever be entrusted to a church leader. No child should ever be left alone or in small groups with a pastor or a youth pastor or a priest. The risks are too great.
